HC Deb 11 April 1989 vol 150 cc508-9W
24. Mr. Knapman

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how much more in real terms his Department has spent on the Royal Navy since 1978–78.

32. Mr. Irvine

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how much more in real terms his Department has spent on the Royal Navy since 1978–79.

Mr. Younger

Up to the end of 1987–88, £4.5 billion more had been spent on the Royal Navy, in real terms, than would have been spent if spending had remained at the 1978–79 level. This takes into account GDP inflation and excludes expenditure on both the Falklands garrison and nuclear strategic forces.
