HC Deb 11 April 1989 vol 150 c476W
Dr. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what is the total number of lakes in each county in Wales in which fish life is affected by acidification from acid rain and other sources.

Mr. Grist

No categoric answer can be given. Provisional results from a Welsh water authority pilot survey of 37 lakes in Gwynedd located in class I and II catchments (that is, vulnerable to acidification) show that between 8 and 21 per cent. are thought to have suffered fishery decline which could be acid water related.
