HL Deb 11 April 1989 vol 506 c239WA
Lord Kilbracken

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What action they propose to take in view of the defeat at the United Nations Human Rights Commission on 8th March of the proposal put forward by them and by other Western Governments to investigate allegations of serious violations of human rights by the Government of Iraq.

The Minister of State for Defence Procurement (Lord Trefgarne)

We were disappointed that the resolution condemning Iraq's human rights record was defeated at the United Nations Commission on Human Rights by a procedural Motion. But we have always made clear our concern about the human rights situation in Iraq and will continue to do so both bilaterally and through multilateral fora such as the European Community.
