§ Mr. WigleyTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will list the lung diseases which are currently recognised as industrial diseases for the purposes of workers' compensation legislation.
§ Mr. ScottThe lung diseases prescribed for defined occupations under the Social Security (Industrial Injuries) (Prescribed Diseases) Regulations are:
- Extrinsic allergic alveolitis (including farmer's lung)
- Poisoning by oxides of nitrogen
- Poisoning by beryllium or a compound of beryllium
- Poisoning by cadmium
- Primary carcinoma of a bronchus or of a lung
- Pneumoconiosis
- Byssinosis
- Diffuse mesothelioma (primary neoplasm of the mesothelium of the pleura or of the pericardium or of the peritoneum)
- Occupational asthma (due to exposure to specified agents)
- Primary carcinoma of the lung where there is accompanying evidence of one or both of the following (a) asbestosis; (b) bilateral diffuse pleural thickening
- Bilateral diffuse pleural thickening
- Lung cancer
