Mr. Dobson

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what are the latest figures for the number of staff presently employed, and the full complement of staff, including vacant posts, in the press and public relations office of the Northern Ireland Office; and what is the proposed complement for 1989–90.

[holding answer 13 March 1989]: At present 50 staff are employed in the Northern Ireland Office and Northern Ireland Departments. The full complement, including vacant posts, is 52. The proposed complement for 1989–90 is 51.

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the latest figure for(a) the estimated expenditure by his Department on press and public relations during 1988–89 and (b) the budget for 1989–90.

[holding answer 13 March 1989]: The latest figure for the total estimated expenditure on press and public relations during 1988–89 is £1,174,402.

The total budget for 1989–90 is £1,310,700.
