To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what has been the average monthly fall in the number of unemployed in the east midlands during the last quarter for which figures are available; and if he will make a statement.

The information is available from the Library. In the quarter ending February 1989, the average monthly fall in unemployment, seasonally adjusted, in the east midlands was 3,600. Unemployment in the east midlands has fallen by 35,300 or 22.8 per cent. over the last 12 months.
