Member for Copeland, 22 March,Official Report, column 651, he will make a statement about the recent United Nations environment programme conference in Basle on the international trade and regulation of hazardous and toxic wastes.

Ms. Walley

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will establish a national register of contaminated land sites.

Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

A Department of the Environment working party is currently examining the feasibility of compiling registers of contaminated land and their report is expected shortly. It would be unwise to pre-empt the recommendations of this working party.
