HC Deb 10 April 1989 vol 150 cc389-90W
Mr. Dalyell

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what assessment Sir Donald Acheson has made of the plant alkaloid Castanospermine, as a possible treatment for certain forms of AIDS, in the light of clinical tests at St. Mary's hospital in London; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Mellor

I understand that there have been some in vitro tests involving derivatives of Castanospermine, but none involving patients. If the hon. Member would like more information he may wish to approach the Medical Research Council.
