HC Deb 06 April 1989 vol 150 cc286-7W
Ms. Mowlam

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he has any plans to extend to Northern Ireland the change in the law introduced by (a) the Local Government (Access to Information) Act 1985, (b) the Access to Personal Files Act 1987, and (c) the Access to Medical Reports Act 1988.

Mr. Ian Stewart

[holding answer 4 April 1989]: Many of the functions carried out by local authorities in Great Britain are carried out by central Government in Northern Ireland. There are no plans at present to introduce legislation similar to the Local Government (Access to Information) Act 1985.

A draft Northern Ireland Order in Council, which will contain provisions corresponding to the Access to Personal Files Act 1987 and the Access to Medical Reports Act 1988, is currently in preparation.
