HL Deb 03 April 1989 vol 505 cc997-8WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they still have "every confidence" in the director and trustees of the Victoria and Albert Museum, and whether they consider current developments to be evidence of their ability to "strengthen the scholarship of the museum and to improve the management of the collections" (Minister for the Arts, HC Deb. 27th February, col. 13).

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Baroness Trumpington)

I can only repeat as I did during the debate in the House of Lords what my right honourable friend the Minister for the Arts has said in another place. The organisation and management of the Victoria and Albert Museum are matters for its director and trustees. The chairman and director have explained to my right honourable friend their plans, both to strengthen the scholarship of the museum and to improve its management of the collections. He fully supports those objectives and has every confidence in the director and the trustees.
