HC Deb 31 October 1988 vol 139 c543W
21. Mr. Nicholas Bennett

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what action is being taken by his Department to bring new employment to west Wales.

Mr. Peter Walker

A full range of measures is being deployed, aimed at sustaining and increasing economic activity and jobs throughout Wales. Since 1986 regional aid has brought forward capital investment of some £60 million in Dyfed which is estimated to create or safeguard nearly 4,000 jobs. In addition there is the substantial support from the Welsh Development Agency and Mid Wales Development, and, as appropriate, through the urban programme. Over the past two years unemployment in the county has fallen by 4,500.
