Mr. Mullin

To ask the Prime Minister what instructions govern members of the security services in relation to the conveying of information to journalists; and on what dates authority was given to members of the security services to convey information to(a) Chapman Pincher, (b) William Massie, (c) Patrick Marnham, (d) David Leigh and (e) Raymond Jackson.

The Prime Minister

I do not propose to comment on the activities of the security services beyond saying that members of the services are well aware of their obligations under both the criminal and the civil law to make no unauthorised disclosures relating to their work.
