To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has received a report, or will ask the United Kingdom ambassador in Washington to obtain details, on the international conference held in Washington DC on 12 October, concerning the greenhouse effect and prospective international solutions; and whether any departmental officials were invited to attend this conference.

[holding answer 27 October 1988]: A report has been received from the British embassy in Washington concerning an international meeting held in Washington DC from the 10 to 12 October 1988. The meeting was arranged for non-governmental environmental groups to discuss the greenhouse effect. No invitation was received by Government officials.
