To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what information his Department has as to the location of proposed(a) light rail/train systems and (b) trolleybus systems in the United Kingdom.

We have received information from the promoters of the following:

(a) Light rail/metro systems in:

  • London Docklands and Croydon
  • Greater Manchester
  • South Yorkshire (Sheffield)
  • West Midlands
  • West Yorkshire (Leeds) Avon
  • Southampton
  • Tyne and Wear (Metro extension)

(b) Trolleybus systems in:

  • West Yorkshire
  • South Yorkshire
