Lead-free Petrol

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if, in view of new evidence of health risks to young children, he will now announce a date for the introduction of mandatory lead-free petrol.

The Government are firmly committed to the changeover to unleaded petrol. It would not, however, be practicable to make the new fuel mandatory because some current cars cannot use it.
