§ Mr. Peter WalkerOn 8 September 1988 the number of unemployed claimants in Newport district, Gwent and Wales were 6,815, 20,394 and 125,825 respectively. Unadjusted figures for 1979 are not available on a basis that enables a valid comparison to be made.
§ Mr. ColemanTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales what was the number of people unemployed in(a) Wales, (b) Neath and (c) west Glamorgan in each of the quarters in 1988.
§ Mr. Peter WalkerOn 10 March 1988 there were 141,403 unemployed claimants in Wales; 3,331 in Neath district; and 18,944 in west Glamorgan. On 9 June 1988 the respective figures were 127,116; 2,964 and 17,428; and on 8 September 1988, 125,825; 2,864; and 17,360. Figures for the last quarter of 1988 will be published on 19 January 1989.
§ Mr. WigleyTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list the number of people living in(a) Dyfed, (b) Clwyd, (c) Powys, (d) Gwynedd, (e) mid Glamorgan, (f) south Glamorgan, (g) west Glamorgan and (h) Gwent who have never worked since leaving school; and how many people under the age of 18 years in this situation are in each area.
§ Mr. Wyn Roberts[holding answer 28 October 1988]: The following table shows, for each Welsh county the number of unemployed claimants who had not entered employment since leaving full-time education, along with those aged under 18 in this group on 8 September 1988. These figures include some temporary over-recording.
