HC Deb 31 October 1988 vol 139 c501W
Mr. Home Robertson

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will establish an inquiry into the percentage of criminal cases reported by the police which are brought to trial and the average period between pleading diet and trial at Haddington sheriff court; and if he will make a statement.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

Steps have already been taken to provide an additional courtroom at Haddington sheriff court and it is anticipated that after this new facility comes into operation at the beginning of January 1989 the average period between pleading diet and trial will be progressively reduced.
