To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether the United Kingdom will increase its contribution to expenditure by the European Space Agency.

Mr. Forth

The United Kingdom's contribution to expenditure by the European Space Agency was £79.6 million in 1987–88 compared with the latest estimate of £87.3 million in the current financial year. We are reviewing our contributions to the agency's science programme, Horizon 2000.
