HC Deb 31 October 1988 vol 139 c490W
Mr. Janner

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many designated equal opportunities officers carry out recruitment monitoring throughout his Department; how many of them are male, how many female and how many from ethnic minorities, respectively; and whether he has taken, or whether he proposes to take, any positive action by reason of the results of such monitoring.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

Designated equal opportunities officers in each of the 10 personnel units provide a joint service for the Department of Health and Social Security, and recruitment monitoring is one of their responsibilities. Including designated deputies and the central unit, 15 are female and eight are male; one of these is from an ethnic minority. Several positive action initiatives, not depending on the results of ethnic monitoring, are under consideration, for example access training in the north eastern region.
