Mr. Nigel Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will list the numbers of(a) mothers and (b) children who are recipients of child benefit in (i)

Mr. Cousins

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what was the projected cost of family credit if all claimants estimated to be entitled claimed it; what was the actual expenditure projected for 1988–89; and what is present estimated outturn expenditure for family credit in the year 1988–89 on the basis of present numbers of claimants.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

Estimates were made only on the basis of the number of families who were expected actually to receive family credit. The expenditure projected for 1988–89 was £409 million. The estimated outturn for 1988–89 will be given in the 1989 public expenditure White Paper.
