To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the total number of(a) primary and (b) secondary schools in which foreign language teaching is available showing, where possible, which languages are being taught.

Modern foreign languages were taught in 436 education authority secondary schools at September 1987. The number of languages taught and the languages involved are set out in the table below.
