To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how quickly on average the Attendance Allowance Board deals with requests for a review of a refusal of attendance allowance; and what have been the comparable figures in past years.

Mr. Frank Field

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security when Charles Eason of 12 Newport Close, Noctourn, Birkenhead, will receive a final decision from the Attendance Allowance Board on his claim (No. ZX 420791D) made in November 1987.

Mr. Scott

The Attendance Allowance Board has now reached a final decision on Mr. Eason's claim, and this will be notified to him within the next seven days. I regret that this decision took some time to finalise and I am writing to the hon. Member.

Mr. Frank Field

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security when John Fairclough of 1 Critchley Avenue, Birkenhead, will receive the final decision from the Attendance Allowance Board of his renewal claim (NP 042830C) made in February 1988.

The Attendance Allowance Board has now reached a final decision on Mr. Fairclough's claim, and this will be notified to him within the next seven days. I regret that this decision took some time to finalise and I am writing to the hon. Member.

Mr. Frank Field

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security when Mrs. Ann Norman will receive a final decision from the Attendance Allowance Board on the claim of her son, Paul, of 18 Naylor Road, Birkenhead, made in March 1987 (FY 571372A).

The Attendance Allowance Board is an independent adjudicating authority and I have no power to intervene in its decisions. However, I am writing to the hon. Member about Mrs. Norman's claim.
