HC Deb 27 October 1988 vol 139 c334W
Mrs. Ray Michie

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many people claiming income support are classed as seasonal workers in England, Wales and Scotland.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

I regret that this information is not available.

Mrs. Ray Michie

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security (1) how many complaints his Department has received in the last year regarding the payment of benefits to seasonal workers; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if he will make a statement regarding the position of seasonal workers and payment of unemployment benefit.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

A number of representations on unemployment benefits for seasonal workers are made every year. Following the publication in May of the report of the Social Security Advisory Committee on this subject (Cm. 374), officials have reviewed the operation of the additional condition for seasonal workers. We shall be making an announcement shortly.
