To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the rent income per year from the houses and flats owned by the Commission for New Towns in Basildon; how this compares with each of the last five years; and if he will make a statement.

The annual rent income from the houses and flats owned by the Commission for the New Towns amounted to £14,740,927 in 1987–88. This compared with the following income for each of the last five years:
