HC Deb 27 October 1988 vol 139 c352W
Mr. Thurnham

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement about the level of productivity in the British economy.

Mr. Brooke

Output per head in the whole economy is now at its highest ever level. It has grown by an average of 2¾ per cent. a year since 1980, a rate similar to that of Japan and faster than all other major industrialised countries.
