Mr. Strang

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what resources of the Health and Safety Commission and Executive were involved in work subsequent upon the Piper Alpha incident.

Mr. Nicholls

A total of approximately 25 man weeks have been spent to date by nine Health and Safety Executive staff, acting on behalf of the Health and Safety Commission, on work relating to the technical investigation subsequent to the Piper Alpha incident.

Mr. Strang

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what work the Health and Safety Commission and Executive had to postpone owing to resources being allocated to work consequent upon the Piper Alpha incident.

Mr. Nicholls

The main effect of the assignment of Health and Safety Executiveinspectors to assist with the investigation of the Piper Alpha incident was to delay some planned preventive work.
