HC Deb 27 October 1988 vol 139 c372W
Mr. Leighton

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what facilities the employment service has in London docklands; and what percentage of new jobs in docklands are advertised through his Department's jobcentres.

Mr. Nicholls

The employment service has a network of thirteen jobcentres and unemployment benefit offices in and around the docklands.

The existing network is to be further enhanced by a new docklands mobile jobcentre which will be operational from November 1 this year. This office will visit five sites each week in the boroughs of Newham and Tower Hamlets and will provide access to the full facilities of the employment service. During the period April-September this year 10,798 vacancies were notified to offices in and around docklands. It is not possible to calculate what percentage of the total vacancies available in the docklands this represents.
