§ Mr. ShersbyTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport when he plans to transfer highway direction powers from county councils to district councils.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyIt is proposed to replace the power of direction of local highway authorities with a right to be consulted on development proposed near roads. The change will be included in the new consolidated Town and Country Planning General Development Order for England and Wales which my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment proposes to lay before Parliament early next week. It is to come into effect on 5 December this year.
