HC Deb 27 October 1988 vol 139 c411W
Mr. Gareth Wardell

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he has any plans to improve the inspection methods used to check dangerous goods consignments transported by road to ensure that the transport documents correctly reflect the dangerous goods actually carried.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The enforcement of the regulations covering the transport of dangerous goods by road is the responsibility of the Health and Safety Executive. The Department's traffic examiners and the police also undertake regular checks of goods vehicles carrying dangerous goods to ensure that documentation and the marking of the vehicle correctly reflect the consignments.

We are considering with the Health and Safety Executive the feasibility of prescribing a transport document identifying dangerous goods carried.
