HC Deb 27 October 1988 vol 139 c313W
Mr. Home Robertson

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will take steps to assist and co-ordinate action by Scottish local authorities for the safe disposal of unwanted domestic refrigerators and other equipment containing chlorofluorocarbons.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The vaporisation of chlorofluorocarbons does not present any significant risk to human health and no advice to local authorities is considered necessary.

There is at present no environmentally safe disposal method that local authorities could use, but my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment through his Department actively pursues means to reduce emissions with user industries.
