HC Deb 27 October 1988 vol 139 c408W
Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement regarding the progress towards elections to the Central American Parliament.

Mr. Eggar

We understand that Costa Rica has yet to ratify the Central American Parliament treaty, although legislation is in train to allow it to do so. We hope that elections to the Central American Parliament may take place not long thereafter.

Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has made to Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador concerning their failure to abide by the terms of the Esquipaulas II peace accord; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Eggar

We and our European partners have on a number of occasions called on all signatories of the Esquipulas II peace agreement to fulfil their outstanding obligations under the agreement without delay.

Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State intends to visit Nicaragua when he is in Central America in 1989; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Eggar

I have no plans at present to visit Nicaragua.
