HC Deb 27 October 1988 vol 139 cc350-1W
Mr. Gwilyn Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if there is to be any change to the cash limit for class XVII, vote 5 for the current financial year; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Walker

Yes. Subject to parliamentary approval of the necessary Supplementary Estimate, the cash limit on class XVII, vote 5, is to be changed from £224,784,000 to £223,766,000. This is the net effect of two changes to the cash limit.

There is a reduction of £1,203,000 to compensate for an overspend in 1987–88. This follows the normal practice of reducing the cash limit for one financial year by the amount of the previous year's overspend. The reduction is partly offset by an increase of £185,000 which represents part of the £383,000 allocated to Wales for disbursement to various voluntary sector bodies following the error in the calculation of the retail prices index as announced by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Social Services on 18 December 1987.
