HC Deb 27 October 1988 vol 139 cc413-4W
Mr. Colvin

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what is the estimate in round figures of the cost of the proposed bypass on the A36 at West Wellow.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The estimated cost is about £3.5 million at November 1985 prices. The actual cost will depend on the route and detailed design.

Mr. Colvin

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what traffic counts have been carried out on the A36 at West Wellow; and if he will publish the results in the Official Report, showing the vehicles by type.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The lastest traffic count, on 20 June 1986, showed a 24-hour flow of 12,500 vehicles. Analysis of vehicle type was carried out over a 12-hour period between 7 am and 7 pm. Categories were as follows:

Number
Pedal Cycles 12
Motor Cycles 138
Car and Taxi 7,796

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The Department's proposals for the Bonby Lodge interchange, on the A 15 trunk road, were published on 29 July in the form of draft orders under the Highways Act 1980. The period for the receipt of objections expires on 28 October.

Further progress on the scheme will be governed by the time needed to complete the necessary statutory procedures.
