To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will publish in theOfficial Report the number and categories of posts deemed to be required to staff the new paediatric cardiology department at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.

The Department has approved in principle the proposals of South Glamorgan health authority for the development of a paediatric cardiac unit at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. The numbers and categories of staff posts are currently being assessed by the authority and will be reviewed by the Department in the light of the report of the cardiology committee of the Royal College of Physicians and other developments.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will place in the Library details of the advertisements that have been placed in seeking to fill the newly created posts for paediatric cardiology at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, together with the responses received and appointments made.

Advertisements for the post of consultant paediatric cardiologist at the University Hospital of Wales were placed by South Glamorgan health authority with theBritish Medical Journal and the Lancet and appeared in those journals on 4 April 1987 and 13 February 1988. No appointment was made.
