Dr. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what information he has on representations made by(a) the Government of the Republic of Ireland and (b) non-governmental organisations in the Republic of Ireland to the European Commission on the continued operation, or new siting, of respectively (a) the British Nuclear Fuels Sellafield reprocessing site, (b) British Nuclear Fuel's Calder Hall military reactors, (c) Central Electricity Generating Board magnox reactors at Hinkley A Transfynydd and Wylfa, (d) Central Generating Board advanced gas cooled reactors at Heysham and Hinkley `B' and (e) Central Generating Board planned pressurised water reactors at Hinkley C.

Mr. Michael Spicer

Any representation to the European Commission is a matter between those making the representation and the Commission. I have not been informed by the Commission of any such representations.

I am, of course, aware of the general concerns which have been expressed by the Government of the Republic of Ireland and other non-governmental Irish organisations on these questions.
