HC Deb 26 October 1988 vol 139 cc299-300W
Mr. Dobson

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what consideration was given by his Department to the plans of London Underground Limited to refurbish part of King's Cross underground station prior to the fire in November 1987.

Mr. Portillo

The Department was aware that King's Cross was included in the modernisation programme for a number of stations approved by the GLC in 1981. It was also informed that work was due to begin in the summer of 1987 on the Metropolitan and Circle line areas of the station, the only areas at King's Cross remaining to be completed under the 1981 programme.

Mr. Dobson

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport whether he or any of his ministerial colleagues or departmental officials have been consulted by Mr. Fennel about all or any part of the contents of his report into the King's Cross fire.

Mr. Portillo

No.

Mr. Dobson

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport whether he has received the Fennel report into the King's Cross fire.

Mr. Portillo

I refer the hon. Member to the answer I gave the hon. Member for Caerphilly (Mr. Davies) on 24 October 1988.
