HC Deb 26 October 1988 vol 139 c287W
28. Mr. Hind

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will make a statement on the progress of the inner city task forces.

Mr. Newton

The inner city task forces are central to the Government's action for cities. Their objectives are to secure more jobs for local people, to improve their employability, to encourage and facilitate local enterprise, and to support environmental and crime prevention initiatives which can contribute to these objectives.

Since the task forces began their work in 1986, they have supported more than 900 projects. These have generated or safeguarded about 4,000 jobs, facilitated around 20,000 training places and involved around 400 companies.

37. Mr. Roger King

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether he has plans to establish any more inner city task forces.

Mr. Newton

I have no plans at present to establish any more task forces. However task forces are not meant to be a permanent feature in their areas and the number and locations of them may change.
