To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science how much public money has been earmarked over the next three years for city technology colleges.

Total planned public expenditure including recurrent and capital grant is £86 million over the three financial years 1988–89, 1989–90 and 1990–91.

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many officers within his Department have been reserved to deal with city technology colleges.

There are currently 14 officials in Schools Branch, 4 working on the city technology programme. Of those, six have other responsibilities unconnected with CTCs. Additionally eight officials in architects and buildings branch undertake some work on the design and refurbishment of buildings for CTCs.
