HC Deb 26 October 1988 vol 139 cc235-6W
Mr. Pike

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what recent representations he has received from regional water authorities with regard to the implications of upgrading bathing beaches.

Mr. Moynihan

[holding answer 21 October 1988]: The financial implications of upgrading bathing waters have been considered in this year's round of corporate plan discussions with water authorities. These discussions took place against the background of a request to the industry to examine the feasibility of accelerating investment programmes to achieve compliance with the EC bathing water directive.
