HC Deb 25 October 1988 vol 139 c186W
29. Mr. Boswell

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement on the level of job vacancies in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Lee

In September 1988 the number of unfilled vacancies registered at jobcentres in the United Kingdom, seasonally adjusted and excluding community programme vacancies was 242,200 compared with 246,600 in September 1987, a decrease of 1.8 per cent. over the last 12 months. It is estimated that about a third of all vacancies are notified to jobcentres.
