HC Deb 25 October 1988 vol 139 cc135-6W
Mr. Peter Robinson

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how much has been spent by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive in rehabilitation in each of the housing regions in Northern Ireland in each year since 1973.

Mr. Needham

This is a matter for the chairman of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, who has advised me that, prior to 1980–81, details of rehabilitation expenditure were not maintained on a regional basis. Rehabilitation expenditure (ie, expenditure on both acquired and purpose-built stock) since 1980–81 is as follows:

Year Belfast £k South East £k South £k North East £k North West £k West £k
1980–81 11,879 1,059 2,142 1,324 1,501 436
1981–82 14,798 1,628 1,671 1,866 3,676 1,466
1982–83 25,777 9,794 6,285 6,168 5,900 4,474
1983–84 24,666 6,828 5,416 7,858 4,862 4,148
1984–85 22,896 6,746 5,724 9,648 5,630 2,889
1985–86 24,080 7,064 8,463 9,615 6,342 2,695
1986–87 16,890 5,913 4,725 4,398 3,655 2,271
1987–88 18,574 4,748 5,016 5,330 5,091 4,080

Mr. Peter Robinson

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how much has been spent by the Housing Executive on the repair and rehabilitation of houses in the Ardoyne area of district 6 in Belfast in each of the last five years.

Mr. Needham

This is a matter for the chairman of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, who has advised me that information on the repair of dwellings in the Ardoyne area is not readily available and could only be compiled at disproportionate cost. The total amount spent on rehabilitation and planned maintenance in the area in each of the last five years is as follows:

Rehabilitation £ Planned maintenance £
1983–84 Nil Nil
1984–85 493,657 182,672
1985–86 257,975 212,700
1986–87 756,000 43,469
1987–88 915,861 302,203

Mr. Peter Robinson
