HC Deb 25 October 1988 vol 139 cc149-50W
Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what information he has regarding the current average cost to a local authority for(a) installing a ramp, (b) a stair lift and (c) widening doorways to provide for wheelchair access to council homes;

(2) what information he has regarding the average waiting time for households containing a disabled person seeking adaptations to their council property;

(3) what information he has regarding the number of households containing a disabled person and awaiting adaptations for ramps, stairlifts and widening of doorways.

Mr. Trippier

[holding answer 24 October 1988]: Information about households awaiting adaptations, and about the average cost to local authorities of adaptations, is not held centrally. The Department's new guidance manual "Home Adaptations for People with Physical Disabilities", a copy of which is in the Library, gives details of the cost of specific adaptations in 22 case studies in England and Wales.
