HC Deb 25 October 1988 vol 139 c132W
Sir Michael McNair-Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many personnel are employed in his Ministry; what percentage of them are disabled; how many persons have been taken on in the past year; and how many of them suffer from a disability.

Mr. Sainsbury

On 1 June 1988, the number of full-time equivalent United Kingdom-based civilian staff employed by MOD was 142,675. Of this number, some 126,300 were covered in the annual survey of registered disabled personnel at that date and, of those covered, 1,191 (0.94 per cent.) were registered as disabled. No information is available on unregistered disabled personnel. Identified intake of United Kingdom-based civilian staff during the year to 1 June 1988 totalled some 13,600. The annual survey of registered disabled personnel recorded recruitment of 14 registered disabled personnel during the year.
