HC Deb 24 October 1988 vol 139 cc36-7W
Sir John Farr

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what recent representations he has made to the Government of the Republic of Korea to permit the sale of bottled-at-origin Scotch whisky in Korea.

Mr. Alan Clark

The Korean authorities have undertaken to liberalise the market for bottled-in-Scotland Scotch whisky on 1 July 1989. We welcome this undertaking, but continue to press, both bilaterally and through the European Community, for firm details of the proposed measures. We have made our position clear to the authorities in Seoul, and the issue will be high on the agenda for forthcoming United Kingdom economic policy talks.
