HC Deb 24 October 1988 vol 139 c105W
53. Mr. Thorne

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what consideration has been given to making zig-zag no-parking lines outside schools mandatory.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

A number of experiments have shown that existing advisory markings are generally effective. Mandatory restrictions would not be justified in most locations. It is better for schools to be considered individually, so that accident prevention measures and enforcement effort can be concentrated on problem sites.
