Traffic increased by 6 per cent. between the first half of 1986 and first half of 1987; there was a further increase of 7 per cent. between the same periods of 1987 and 1988.
The provisional estimate for the number of deaths in the first six months of 1988 is 2,282; the same period produced 2,293 deaths in 1987 and 2,393 deaths in 1986.
The number of casualties including slight injuries in the first six months of 1988 is provisionally estimated at 149,900. The casualty figures for 1986 and 1987 are 148,200 and 141,677 respectively.
