To ask the Secretary of State for Health what has been the percentage increase of pay to(a) nurses, (b) doctors and (c) ancillary staff in the National Health Service for each year since 1970.

[holding answer 21 October 1988]: The table gives details of increases in rates of pay. The extent by which basic rates are enhanced by additional earnings varies between staff groups and is substantial in the case of ancillary staff.
