HC Deb 24 October 1988 vol 139 cc96-7W
Mr. Cecil A. Walker

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) what is the percentage of Irish Republican Army-attributed murders which remain unresolved in north Belfast;

(2) what is the percentage of murders attributed to Protestant paramilitary groups which remain unresolved in north Belfast.

Mr. Ian Stewart

Of the murders carried out by paramilitary organisations in the constituency of Belfast, North since June 1983 some 80 per cent. of those believed by the police to have been carried out by Republican groups remain unresolved while 70 per cent. of those thought to have been carried out by Loyalist groups remain unresolved. Police investigations continue into all unresolved murders and a number of people have recently been charged with murders in this area.
