HC Deb 24 October 1988 vol 139 c18W
Mr. Allen

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will take steps to seek to amend the legislation on insider trading to make the offence consequent on acting upon rather than obtaining inside information.

Mr. Maude

There is no offence of obtaining inside information as such under the Company Securities (Insider Dealing) Act. All the offences under that Act depend on the prosecution showing that a person who has inside information has dealt on a recognised stock exchange or has done certain other acts.
