HC Deb 24 October 1988 vol 139 c17W
114. Mr. Boswell

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what action he proposes in the general agreement on tariffs and trade Uruguay round to stimulate exports from developing countries.

Mr. Alan Clark

The United Kingdom is seeking a more liberal multilateral trading system, the extension of GATT principles to agriculture, trade in services, investment and intellectual property and the strengthening of the GATT system by the closer integration of developing countries. These reforms will benefit all countries. The European Community has made it clear that it is willing to negotiate on all subjects of interest to the developing countries, including tropical products and textiles.
